Martin was my advisor, mentor and friend. So many great memories! I shall cherish always our many talks and sometimes arguments and his deep sense of the divine.

Martin was my thesis advisor - not that I had intended to write a thesis, because my particular program didn't require it. But he challenged me and volunteered his services as thesis advisor - I could hardly say no! And I'm so glad I said yes. I learned so very much from Martin, both during my time at AST and since. I don't know anybody who has come away from a conversation with him not changed in some way, and he'll be deeply missed.

On behalf of Mary and myself I am sending my condolences to the Rumscheidt family. He was, for us, a good neighbour, friend, colleague, and teacher and will be widely missed.

It was such a great privilege to have been a member of Maritime Conference and later a student at AST during his tenure. His lectures, challenges and life have influenced my thoughts and practice of ministry for these past decades since my ordination. Two memories stand out -- attending a traditional Christmas tree lighting at his home where real candles adorned the tree and the morning where I was standing at the top of the stairs outide the old library as Martin was coming up the steps with a look of profound wonder on his face and then spoke the unbelievable words, "It's down!" He had just heard that the Berlin Wall had fallen. He was so open to express his life's passions. A remarkable gift from God to so many of us.

Saddened to hear of Martin's passing. I was one of many students of theology who benefited from his excellent teaching and kind friendship at Atlantic School of Theology. RIP

My sincere sympathy! Dr. Rumscheidt was a favourite professor of mine and I learned a lot about social justice from him. Both Martin and Barb were wise teachers and I am forever grateful for their presence in my life! ❤️

I am saddened to learn of the death of Martin Rumscheidt. I had met him through various meetings of United Church committees before my term as President of Atlantic School of Theology. Professor Ziegler has written an excellent tribute to Martin, highlighting especially his contribution to theological scholarship and education for ministry. What a pity that we are deprived of Martin's wise analysis and passionately held perspective during these very days when Israel is facing its own charges of committing genocide in its war with Hamas in Gaza. I am honoured to be able to join with the extended community of AST in remembering Martin and his great contribution to its life and work. Dr William J Close, retired President, AST

My deepest condolences on the death of Martin Rumscheidt with whom I had the pleasure of being a colleague at the Atlantic School of Theology in the early 2000. He was indeed a passionate thinker and I learned much from him in conversation and common tasks at the AST. May his memory be a blessing.... for his family and for all his colleagues and students. Until we meet again in God's glory, Martin..... Charles P sj
