“The Word of reconciliation spoken by God to man.” (CD I/2, page 122). Barth is vividly asking us readers concerning the world he is painting of our “flesh,” in which share, as he speaks to our own hearts, based on how the word “flesh,” in the Bible, as Bultmann did also point out, means we human beings in our impossible, false, but terribly real, opposition to God, such that revelation can only be a mystery to us, how God could ever want to have a thing to do with us as His human partners, to reconcile us human beings to Himself, yes, in Jesus Christ, true God and true human being. Our footnote is incorrect, for our quote seems to be from CD 1/2, chapter 11, part II, par. 15, section 3, “The Miracle of Christmas, pp.172-3. “The Miracle of Christmas”! Clearly Barth here in free, and thoughtful and cheerful, and resolute, and Biblical, theological dialogue with R. Bultmann regarding “The Mystery of Revelation.” (pages 122-202) “The Merry Christmas!
